APPROACH NOTES
Enter Kachemak Bay from Cook Inlet. Homer Spit extends 4.5 miles into the bay — the harbor is at the very tip. Follow the marked approach channel; shoaling exists on both sides of the spit entrance. Tidal range is extreme (up to 26 ft at highest springs) — factor this into your approach time and line lengths. Call Homer Harbormaster on VHF 16 for a transient slip assignment. Halibut charter fleet departs 0500–0600 daily June–August — expect heavy commercial traffic at dawn.
