APPROACH NOTES

Enter Prince William Sound from the south through the Hinchinbrook Entrance, then north through Valdez Arm to the city. Port Valdez is a deep natural fjord — no shoaling concerns on the main approach. Harbor is on the east side of town, adjacent to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Terminal (tanker traffic — stand clear). Call Valdez Harbormaster on VHF 16. Guest dock on 'D' Float, clearly marked. Glacier calving from Shoup Glacier (4nm west) can produce unexpected wave action — monitor radio for warnings.
